Managing users
You think of an Organisation like your entire company (e.g. Tesla), and a Team as a specific team within that Organisation (e.g. Tesla's finance team or Tesla's marketing team).
Models can be shared with the entire Organisation, specific teams within that Organisation, or just specific users within an Organisation. See Sharing models for more.
There are three types of user roles on Causal:
- Admin
- Member
- Viewer
Regardless of role, all users of an Organisation will be able to create models of their own.
Members of an Organisation can build, edit and share models.
You can think of an Admin like an owner of an Organisation. They can do everything a Member can do, plus:
- Add Members to the Organisation
- Remove Members from the Organisation
- Create additional teams, e.g. "Finance Team" or "Marketing Team"
A Viewer can view dashboards shared with the Organisation, but can't access underlying models to make changes. Additionally, Viewers are unable to share models to the Organisation. You can add as many Viewers to your Organisation for free.
If a user is a Viewer they will only ever be able to view the model dashboards of the models that are shared within the organization.
If a user is a Member they will have view and edit access to models /views shared within the Organisation.
When you invite users to your Organisation from my.causal.app/organisation, they are automatically part of your Organisation. However, if they sign up for Causal before you invite them, they will have to verify their email address before Causal adds them to your Organisation. Note: these emails can get lost in spam!
You think of an Organisation like your entire company (e.g. Tesla), and a Team as a specific team within that Organisation (e.g. Tesla's finance team).
By default, a team is auto-created for each Causal user (e.g. Heidi's team) - you can rename this as you wish, as well as add additional people to your team.
Team members can be Collaborators or Admins (the only difference being that Admins can invite/remove people from the team).
Note: Only Admins of Organisations can create new Teams (by hitting Create New Team in the Organisations tab of Causal).
